Pastor Job Description for New Progressive M.B. Church
Principle Function
The Pastor will be responsible to the members of New Progressive Missionary Baptist Church to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Body to nurture spiritual growth and maturity, to teach the Bible and expound on scripture for the congregation, to engage in Church ministries, to provide spiritual leadership to members of New Progressive and to provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life.

Essential Knowledge and Skills
You must have comprehensive knowledge of the Bible, a personal relationship with the Lord, and a strong religious conviction. You also must be licensed and ordained by a church or accredited body. Beneficial skills may include:

A Bachelor’s Degree, a Degree in theology or ministry from an accredited university or seminary, and/or comparable ministry experience, of at least 3 years ministry experience required.
Compensation
This is a full-time paid position based on qualifications and experience. The church provides medical insurance and paid vacation time off from work.

Job Responsibilities
Preaching and Teaching
- Plan and conduct the Worship services; prepare and deliver sermons; provide pulpit coverage, lead in observance of programs and ministry events, with the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
- Administer sacraments of Communion and Baptism.
- Teach biblical truths, enabling members to learn and apply God's word through Bible study, small groups, and general discipleship.
- Conduct counseling sessions’ and assist members in crisis situations, including but not limited to mentoring, visiting bereaved members, visiting the sick and shut in, conducting funerals, conducting marriage counseling, and officiating wedding ceremonies.
- Serve as overseer and the chief administrator of all operations of New Progressive and work with church officers and members of the congregation.
- Serve as Chairman of the New Progressive Joint Board to lead in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all church business and affairs.
- Act as moderator of regularly scheduled Joint Board and church business meetings.
- Oversee the financial management of the Church including working with the finance committee in the management of church finances.
- Appoint deacons and trustees and oversee in training and leadership of the deacons and trustees, as directed by the Holy Spirit.
- Assign licensing of associate ministers and ordination of deacons and associate ministers, as directed by the Holy Spirit.
- Appoint church officers, ministry leaders and committee leaders and overseechurch leadership as they perform their assigned responsibilities.Strategic Leadership and Planning
- Provide leadership in planning and executing ministry programs, ministry training, in coordination with other church leaders and members.
- Develop and establish programs for youth and young adults, seniors, and other members of the congregation.
- Serve as chief administrator of the church staff; responsible to recommend for hire, supervise, oversee, train and evaluate the work of church administrative staff.
- Lead by example in stewardship matters, by supporting the work of the church through tithes and offerings and regular teaching about financial and stewardship issues.
- Collaborate with Music Department to integrate music into church services and programs.
- Oversee the New Progressive webpage and coordinate with thecommunications team.
- Oversee all property management issues for all church facilities and ensureall church facilities are maintained and properly functioning.
- Lead the church in an effective program of witnessing and caring ministry for persons in the church and community.
- Work with local alderman and CAPS to develop effective evangelism and activities for members and the local community.
- Cooperate with associational, state, and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern; keep the church informed of denominational developments; represent the church in civic matters.
