Pastor CALVIN L. MALONE, SR.
Born on December 22, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois, Rev. Calvin Malone spent his early years in Princeton Park, attending Charles R. Drew and Frank L. Gillespie schools. A childhood filled with outdoor activities and family bonding laid the foundation for his spiritual journey. At the age of seven, he was introduced to Christianity, and by seventeen, he committed to his faith, culminating in baptism at New Progressive Missionary Baptist Church.
Rev. Malone completed his high school education at John Marshall Harlan High School in 1988. He pursued higher education at Eastern Illinois University, majoring in Sociology and African American Studies. To support his academic endeavors, he joined the Army Reserves and later earned a Master’s Degree from Eastern University in 1989.
In 1990, Rev. Malone married his high school love, Lisa Hurt. The couple was blessed with two children, Calvin Jr. and Christina. He answered his call to ministry in 1994 and was ordained in 1995 by the late Rev. Dr. Elzie Young. Initially serving as an associate minister at New Progressive, he moved to Rockford, Illinois, in 2000.
His pastoral journey continued in Rockford, where he led Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church for 14 years from 2001. In 2017, Rev. Malone and his family moved to Alabama, and he became the Pastor of Grace Place Church in Enterprise. After three years of service, he returned to Chicago in 2020 and was installed as Pastor of New Progressive on November 19, 2023.
Rev. Malone is also known for his hobbies outside the church, including drawing, motorcycling, and cherishing moments with his family.
